Flexais undergo road and public space requalification efforts

- Planned within the Flexais Project, these initiatives will enhance over 4 km of roads
- Praça Nossa Senhora da Conceição will feature a new playground and outdoor gym
Maceió, August 30, 2024 - Road requalification projects are progressing in Flexais. The interventions are taking place at Rua Tobias Barreto and Rua Faustino da Silveira, aimed at improving mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers in the region. In total, it will improve more than 4 km of roads.
This is yet another initiative from the Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project, created from an Agreement signed in October 2022 among the Municipality of Maceió, the Federal Public Ministry, the Public Ministry of the State of Alagoas, the Federal Public Defender's Office, and Braskem, and aims to implement a series of initiatives for urban integration and regional development in Flexais.
Beyond street repaving, the project includes expanding sidewalks, establishing shared roads prioritizing pedestrians, and installing handrails and street amenities like benches and trash bins.
The project also encompasses enhancements to Praça Nossa Senhora da Conceição. Its goal is to create a more complete area for community socializing and leisure activities. The site will feature a playground, futsal table, outdoor gym, and a lakeside contemplation area. Flowerbeds and gardens will also be revitalized.
All roadworkses adhere to accessibility standards, with sidewalks featuring tactile paving and directional and warning indicators to assist visually impaired individuals. Also, ramps are provided for those with reduced mobility, and comprehensive road signage is installed both vertically and horizontally.
Public services, spaces for socializing and commerce
In addition to the road requalification initiatives, the Flexais Project began construction on the new Basic Health Unit (UBS) and a daycare school. Future plans involve the development of a Shopping Mall, market space, Fishermen's Support Center, and a pier for Lagoa Mundaú access.
Other measures include urban cleaning, pest control, surveillance, a dedicated and free bus route for Flexais residents, school transportation, and psychological support. Security cameras have been installed, and the Flexal Space, which houses municipal departments for community service, is now operational.
Indemnity
Braskem has been compensating residents and traders in the region as part of its commitment to the Flexais Project. The program provides for a total of 1,803 financial proposals and is supported by 99.6% of area residents. By June, 1,795 proposals were presented, 1,784 of which have been paid. In total, BRL 48.2 million have been paid by the Company.
Commitments to Maceió
The Flexais Project initiatives are among the 10 commitments to Maceió, as reaffirmed by Braskem, with many in an advanced stage of implementation or already completed. These commitments span across social, urban, and environmental fronts, forming part of the five principal agreements signed between Braskem and authorities in recent years. Most of these agreements were established following consultations with public authorities, society, and affected communities.
Braskem created the Compromissos com Maceió (Commitments to Maceió) platform to ensure transparency and enable the community to track all these initiatives and programs. Learn more about our commitments at https://www.braskem.com/compromissosmaceio where contents are constantly updated.
