Flexal Entrepreneurs' Fair Promotes Local Commerce, Culture and Gastronomy

  • Traders will showcase their food, accessories, clothing, and perfumery stands
  • The event takes place this Saturday, June 8th, and will feature cultural presentations, an outdoor playground, and workshops

Maceió, June 6, 2024 - The Flexal Entrepreneurs' Fair will bring together local traders this Saturday, June 8th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Rua Tobias Barreto. The event will feature a variety of items for sale, including crafts, accessories, jewelry, home goods, clothing, bags, perfumes, plants, fresh produce, and food products such as cakes, snacks, party treats, cookies, and fruit juices.

For children's entertainment, there will be an outdoor area with a trampoline, ball pit, inflatable toys, and carts selling popcorn and cotton candy. Cultural performances will include the traditional "coco de roda" group Reviver at 3 p.m., followed by Trio Pé de Serra at 4 p.m.

Additionally, the Municipal Health Department will be present, offering blood pressure and glucose measurements and conducting awareness campaigns.

The fair is being organized by a committee of local entrepreneurs composed of community residents. The Urban Integration and Flexais Development Project aims to support community engagement by providing stands and structures for exhibitions, as well as spaces for children's entertainment and cultural attractions.

Workshops

Workshops on community communication will be held during the fair. Participation registration can be completed on-site, but availability is limited. In preparation for the event, the community enjoyed workshops on traditional Brazilian June festival's food, macramé, and ceramic pottery.

Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project

The Flexal Entrepreneurs' Fair is an initiative of the "Economy and Work," one of the five topics that guide the 23 measures of the Urban Integration and Development of Flexais Project. Other topics addressed include: "Education, sport, leisure, and environment," "Health and social assistance," "Management, community service, and security," and "Mobility."

Recent efforts have focused on revitalizing over 4 km of roads and public spaces, including sidewalks, squares, and urban furniture in the region. Construction is underway for a new Basic Health Unit (UBS) in Flexais, covering a 390 m² area.

Other ongoing initiatives include urban cleaning, pest control, surveillance, the introduction of a dedicated and free bus route for Flexais residents, school transportation services, and psychological support programs. Moreover, the installation of security cameras, modernization of public lighting, and development of the Flexal Space - a hub for municipal departments to serve the community directly - have already been completed.

Residents and traders affected by socio-economic isolation in the region are receiving compensation as part of the initiative. By the end of April, over 99% of the proposed projects had been presented, with an impressive 98.6% already paid out, totaling BRL 48.5 million. Additionally, in November 2022, Braskem allocated BRL 64 million to the Municipality of Maceió to implement supplementary measures in the region, further underlining their commitment to community welfare and development.

Commitments with Maceió

The initiatives that encompass the Flexais Project are part of Braskem's 10 commitments with Maceió. The initiatives and programs, many of which are in an advanced stage of implementation or have already been concluded, address social, urban, and environmental aspects and form part of the five primary agreements signed between Braskem and the authorities in recent years. Most of these initiatives were formulated following consultations with public authorities, society, and affected communities.

To enhance comprehension and monitoring of these efforts, Braskem is consolidating them through the Compromissos com Maceió (Commitments with Maceió) platform. The details and respective implementation stages of the actions and programs can now be consulted and monitored at  https://www.braskem.com.br/compromissosmaceio , which is constantly updated.
