Mobility work completed on Calmon one-way pair streets

  • Roads had their pavement requalified and received horizontal and vertical signage

Maceió, November 14, 2024 - The pavement and traffic signage requalification work on the Calmon one-way pair streets in the Bebedouro neighborhood has been completed. Pedro Beltrão, João Leite Sobrinho, and Dr. Antônio Nunes Leite streets underwent pavement and signage requalification, totaling a 0.68 km section. In addition to these three, sections of Cônego Costa street and Ladeira (hillside street) do Calmon received signage improvements to optimize the vehicle flow.

On a one-way pair, parallel and nearby roads are used as one-way streets. For Calmon, the Dr. Antônio Nunes Leite and João Leite Sobrinho streets now operate in the direction of Fernandes Lima-Bebedouro only. On the first mentioned, traffic is exclusive to buses. In addition to providing more fluid and safer traffic, the system optimizes public transportation. All work carried out at Calmon follows the Municipal Department of Transport and Traffic (DMTT) guidelines.

The implementation of measures to enhance urban mobility is part of the Socio-Environmental Agreement signed in December 2020 by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and Braskem, with participation from the State Public Ministry (MPE) and support from the Municipality of Maceió.

Mobility Package
The works are planned by the Municipality and executed by specialized companies contracted by Braskem. The interventions are supervised by the public authorities and are expected to last about three and a half years. The budget is BRL 360 million - adjusted annually.

The projects include constructing, expanding, or repairing 33.4 kilometers of roads, installing nearly 37 kilometers of accessible sidewalks and bike lanes, upgrading public walkways and parking areas, adding new lighting and electrical infrastructure, implementing stormwater drainage systems, and operating an intelligent traffic light system already in place.
