- Specialists are working to preserve the physical characteristics and architectural references of the properties.
Maceió, March 6, 2025 - A set of historically valuable houses in the Bebedouro neighborhood is undergoing services to maintain their structural integrity. The Municipality has identified a total of 37 buildings in the vacated areas as meeting these criteria and are being monitored by a team of experts. This year, interventions are planned for 16 properties. Permits have already been granted for 11, while 5 remain in the licensing process. In recent years, another 21 properties have undergone interventions to ensure the stability of the buildings.
Repairs are being carried out by specialized companies hired by Braskem, following heritage preservation guidelines and best practices. All work is conducted with the Municipality's approval and overseen by Braskem's technical team, which includes architects specializing in cultural heritage.
These professionals ensure the use of appropriate materials to reinforce the structural elements of the buildings, preserving their original construction methods and ensuring stability. The team also works to maintain the physical and architectural characteristics of the period in which the buildings were constructed.
Cultural heritage preservation in the vacated areas is part of the Socio-Environmental Agreement signed in December 2020 between the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) and Braskem, with the participation of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Alagoas (MPE) and support from the Municipality.
Other properties
Palácio Bom Conselho, Solar Nunes, Igreja Santo Antônio de Pádua, the "Verde e Rosa" twin houses, and others underwent structural recovery work. Most of them received interventions in their structures, frames, and roofs. In some cases, metal structures were installed to ensure the structural integrity of the properties. At Igreja Santo Antônio de Pádua, preventive maintenance was carried out on the façade, including the restoration of damaged sections, repairs to Portuguese tile cladding, and painting.
Braskem also provides cleaning and pest control services to the properties, as well as supporting property security with a dedicated team working 24/7 with daily drone flights, cameras, and alarm systems.
Recording the memory
In addition to the ongoing efforts to maintain the structures of historically significant properties identified by the Maceió Department of Environment and Urbanism (Semurb), these buildings are also included in the Dossier of Cultural Interest Assets, which aims to preserve their historical memory by documenting construction details and historical information. The work is being conducted by a team made up of architects, historians, and archaeologists.
