Stoppage of the activities in Alagoas

Maceió, May 9, 2019 - Braskem began the process of interruption of the salt extraction activities and the consequent interruption of activities of the chlorine-soda and dichloroethane plants located in the district of Pontal da Barra in the city of Maceió, state of Alagoas. Furthermore, the company is evaluating the impacts on the PVC plant in the city of Marechal Deodoro, also in the state of Alagoas, and on its plants in the Complex of Camaçari, state of Bahia, since they are part of the production chain. The company will comply with all the safety standards applicable to this process.

This measure is due to the developments from the disclosure of Report No. 1 by the Geological Survey of Brazil - CPRM, which refers to the causes of the geological events that affected the district of Pinheiro. The company shall analyze the results submitted, as well as the measures that apply to the matter. Braskem has been collaborating with the authorities to identify the causes of the events, with support from independent experts. Considering its commitment to people's safety, Braskem reaffirms it shall continue to implement emergency actions in the region and will evaluate, jointly with the bodies with jurisdiction, the implementation of additional measures.
