Braskem receives RecyClass certification to improve traceability and sustainability in European PCR business

Advancing the Circular Economy with Verified Recycled Content and Traceability
Rotterdam, The Netherlands - July 8, 2024 - Braskem, a leading global manufacturer of petrochemical products, is proud to announce the successful achievement of RecyClass certification. A significant step in advancing Braskem's circular economy strategy. This valued, cross-industry initiative facilitates the transition to a circular plastics future by providing essential certifications to ensure the sustainability and traceability of recycled plastics.
RecyClass certification includes recyclability certification, recycling process certification and, specifically in Braskem's case, recycled plastic traceability certification. This important certification guarantees that the content and origin of their recycled material is traceable, which greatly increases the credibility and transparency of their mechanically recycled products.
By including this certification, Braskem can demonstrate the traceability and recycled content of its marketed grades. This not only helps its customers to meet their recycled content targets in terms of tax exemptions and legal requirements, but also underlines Braskem's commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
"The primary business objective of this initiative is to provide Braskem's customers with a robust system for the reliable traceability of the origin of plastic waste and the calculation and verification of the recycled percentage in plastic products. With this achievement, Braskem's recycling business aims to improve its qualifications and continue to supply high quality mechanically recycled resins to the European market", added Ellis van Dam, Business Leader Recycled Products Europe.
Braskem remains true to its commitment to sustainability and innovation and strives to improve people's lives through sustainable solutions in the chemicals and plastics industry. With the RecyClass certification, they are taking a significant step forward in their mission to promote a cleaner and greener future.
